One sad outcome of the “bitch collector” method of dog breeding you refer to is that, just like buying a fistful of lottery tickets, such a shotgun approach to dog breeding may produce a notable winner by serendipity, thereby validating the method in the mind of the “quick fix” breeder. I also agree with your commentary on stud fees. Where do these people get the idea that their newly finished champion is worth an outrageous stud fee? I charge a pittance for stud fees until the dog produces his first champions, and only those dogs that are prepotent for traits vital to breed type and soundness should demand anything more than a modest stud fee.
